King Off The Road
Classic mini rally ace Clive King walked away from his massive front flip and then a roll down a 100ft embankment. Clive hopes to salvage the car that he has competed in for many years. It looks like a massive task but if anyone can do it I am sure Clive and his team will give it a good go.
Clive's Comments
With the championship at stake all we had to do was finish. I set off on the first stage and felt that we were off the pace as the car did not want to rev out at the top, so I was surprised to be leading by over a min. in only 8 miles.
Second stage 6 miles in and having got around the square left, I went to change up a gear and the wheel was ripped out of my hand. The car turned square right, and we went off head first. We rolled end over end three times, taking trees out as we went, and then dropped the last 30 feet on the rear, which then bounced us onto the front, finally rolling sideways onto its wheels.
We had dropped over 100ft but neither Polly or myself had a mark on us.
The Cooper S may be savable and if I can pull the rear out we will be on the way to recovering the shell although I need to find a new rear panel.
Will I be out next year? Oh yes in my new 8 port 1964 Cooper S.
